We are seeking dedicated and reliable English-speaking volunteers to tutor adult learners in reading, writing, and/or math. Our learners come from a variety of backgrounds and are working to build foundational skills to support their personal, academic, or career goals.  Requirements: Strong command of spoken and written English, fundamentals of English grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary. Clear and understandable English pronunciation, suitable for learners who are developing foundational literacy skills. Our students are learning the building blocks of English literacy. Tutors must be able to model typical English pronunciation and grammar. We provide training and ongoing support. No formal teaching experience is necessary-- just patience, empathy and a strong grasp of English.
 
NOTE: We ask potential tutors to commit for one year so that they can come alongside a student for that length of time - once students make the decision to improve their skills, they need a tutor who is willing to work with them to increase not only their knowledge but their confidence and self esteem.

Description:
Volunteers will assist with the setup, execution, and takedown of Paws for a Cause, a Pet Walk-a-Thon fundraiser for Samaritan House. This is a fun, outdoor event supporting vulnerable individuals and families in Simcoe County. Volunteers will be assigned to a certain role, you will not be expected to do all of the duties listed below, those are the duties for all of the roles. 

Expected Activities:

• Help with event setup (tables, signs, water stations, etc.)

• Assist with participant registration and check-in

• Guide and encourage participants along the walking route

• Hand out water and refreshments to participants and pets

• Assist with event activities (games, raffles, prize tables, etc.)

• Answer participant questions and provide general event support

Barrie Public Library is currently seeking volunteers to assist with children's programs over the summer break. Responsibilities depend on programs offered but may include:

- Providing a friendly, welcoming greeting to children as they join the program. 
- Assisting children during programs to complete activities and/or crafts
- Assisting with ushering duties during programs, such as crowd control, ticket taking, counting attendance, and admitting latecomers. 
- Assisting with craft preparation before the program. 
- Assisting with set up and clean up for the program. 
- Assisting Library staff as required.

Volunteers who successfully complete shifts over the summer will have the option to continue volunteering in the fall.

THE OPPORTUNITY 

Campfire Circle will be running in-person overnight camp programs at two medically supported overnight camp locations, Rainbow Lake (Waterford, ON) and Muskoka (Rosseau, ON) this summer. We will also be running a Day Camp program in Ottawa.

We are seeking new volunteers age 19+ with a variety of skill sets to participate in a life-changing volunteer experience! New volunteers must commit to one camp session, which can be a 4 to 8 day camp experience (inclusive of on-site training). 
 
Whether it’s at Rainbow Lake, a quiet 143 acres site in Waterford, at Muskoka, which features 400 wooded acres in the town of Rosseau, or at our fun urban Day Camp location Ottawa, you will be connecting kids and families with fun indoor and outdoor activities that help improve their overall wellbeing.

All roles will require you to work in partnership with a team of other volunteers where your first priority will be camper/family safety; ensuring they are supervised and supported at all times.

If you’re a crocheter or knitter, join our community of Bunny Makers for a good cause! Bunny Makers meet monthly to chat and knit/crochet together from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm at Bridget’s Bunnies office (65 Cedar Pointe Dr., unit 811A, Barrie). This is also a time to refresh knitting/crocheting supplies and continue crocheting in the comfort of your own home. Bunny Maker volunteers make Pocket Pals, crocheted or knitted bunnies for our Comfort Kit program. All materials are provided to you for free, and we ask that finished bunnies and unused materials be donated back to Bridget’s Bunnies. 

Hours: 2-10 hours a month (flexible)

•    Crochet or knit a bunny/pocket pal according to Bridget’s Bunnies patterns and instructions

On-demand Comfort Kits, ordered through the website, are processed and shipped within a 2-week period. Hospital Comfort Kits are processed and shipped quarterly.

Description

The GTHS Campaign Awareness Ambassador is the front-line person representing and providing the first impression of our organization to the public at third party events (i.e., farmers’ or artisan markets, community organization open houses, etc.). This role is integral to promoting the vision of the GTHS Capital Campaign and sharing the future direction of our programs and services within the community. This position is well suited for individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and are passionate about the vision and mission of the GTHS.   These volunteers will be supported by the following GTHS team members based on activity:

Time Commitment

2-6 hours on scheduled day.  Scheduled days will vary by event or activity. Individuals can indicate availability. These events are usually on weekends and evenings.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Greets and welcomes the public as they arrive at the GTHS booth for events or at the Animal Centre
• Promotes the Capital Campaign to the public, communicating the vision for the RCPP and illustrating the need for the new facility

Overview:
A Peer Supporter with Badge of Life Canada plays a crucial role in providing emotional and psychological support to Public Safety Personnel (police officers, firefighters, paramedics, correctional officers, nurses, military personnel) and their families who are experiencing operational stress injuries (OSI) such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Peer Supporters create a safe, confidential, and empathetic space for individuals to share their experiences, challenges, and feelings without judgment. Through lived experience and understanding, they help others navigate mental health challenges, build resilience, and find a path to recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Offer Emotional Support: Provide a non-judgmental and compassionate environment for individuals to express their feelings and challenges.
• Active Listening: Use active listening skills to understand the concerns of participants, ensuring they feel heard and validated.
• Share Lived Experience: Draw upon personal experiences in the public safety or military field (or from supporting a loved one in this field) to connect with participants, offering hope and encouragement.
• Promote Mental Wellness Resources: Help participants access additional mental health resources and services as needed, including therapy, counseling, and Badge of Life Canada’s educational programs.
• Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of all discussions and interactions in accordance with Badge of Life Canada's policies.
• Collaborate with Professionals: Work closely with mental health professionals, facilitators, and the Badge of Life Canada team to ensure participants receive the best possible support.
• Provide Crisis Intervention: Recognize signs of crisis in participants and, if necessary, escalate the situation to appropriate professionals for further intervention.

Training and Support:
Badge of Life Canada provides comprehensive training to all Peer Supporters. Our training program equips you with the tools and skills needed to effectively support individuals dealing with operational stress injuries. This includes training in:

• Active listening techniques
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation
• Recognizing signs of OSI and PTSD
• Confidentiality and ethical boundaries
• Best practices for peer support in a public safety context

Ongoing support and supervision will be provided to ensure Peer Supporters have access to guidance and resources while serving in their roles.

Qualifications:

• Lived experience as a Public Safety Personnel, military member, or as a family member of someone in these roles.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to actively listen.
• Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude.
• Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Willingness to participate in all required training sessions.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Network provides bereavement support at no cost to families who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy at any stage, or the death of their baby, up to 12 months of age. Run a 7 week program within the elementary schools for kids in grade 6,7 and/or 8. Its once a week for 90 minutes and its a 7-week program. They run during the school day 9-3pm, Monday-Friday from September-June. Volunteer can run multiple groups during the school year. The Literacy Tutor/Academic Support Volunteer will support the BrainiACTS program.

JA Central Ontario is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated in-school volunteers to empower the next generation through financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness.

Volunteers join a classroom of eager students to facilitate an exciting JA learning experience. Working with students in grades 3-12 (the age range depends on the experience you're teaching), volunteers bring the program content to life and use their real-world experience to help students learn all about these important life skills.

Through our highly interactive learning experiences you will support students in developing the business and life skills they need to build an exciting future. Acting as a resource, facilitator, motivator and role model you will teach a JA learning experience in the classroom. You can volunteer on your own, you and a colleague/friend can sign up together, or we can match you with a partner. We have multiple programs to choose from, depending on your interests and skills.

JA will also provide all necessary training and support to help you you empower the next generation as an in-class volunteer.

The program lasts 6 hours per session, and volunteers can take part multiple times.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, as a  complete vulnerable sector screening is required.

The following elementary school programs are always in high demand:
• More than Money (Grades 3-6) In JA's More than Money program, students are introduced to the intersection of financial literacy, entrepreneurship and social studies learning objectives. Throughout the program students will have the opportunity to think like an entrepreneur and develop business strategy and money-management skills that they can apply to a simulated business.
• Our Business World (Grades 5-6) In JA’s Our Business World program, students explore how businesses are created and what makes them thrive. Using games and multimedia, students learn about innovation, start-ups and self-employment
• Dollars with Sense (Grade 7) In JA's Dollars With Sense program, students get the vital tools they need to make smart financial decisions, live debt-free and become savvy investors. Students learn personal money management skills that they can apply to their lives, beginning now.
• Economics for Success (Grade 8) In JA's Economics for Success program, students take a closer look at the advantages of staying in school, as well as learn what’s needed to succeed in today’s workforce. Volunteers from the local business community partner with classroom teachers to help students see the link between education and achieving their goals.

We will be stepping into chest waders and wading into waist-deep water to anchor old Christmas trees into the streambank. This not only reduces erosion and stabilizes the streambanks, it creates habitat for young trout and salmon, which hatch on the site every year.

The Youth Justice Committee (YJC) bring together youth 12-17 who have been involved in the Criminal Justice System, their parent(s), and trained members of the community. Together, the youth plan and agree to make amends for their actions. This program offers youth alternative measures to the Criminal Justice System.

In this volunteer role:

* You would attend YJC meetings to determine appropriate and meaningful ways for the youth to make amends for their actions.  
* Ensure that the youth is aware of the purpose of the meeting and willing to discuss the matter. 
* Explore the perspectives of all parties, including the youth and others represented at the meeting, such as community members, community agency representatives, and the parent(s). 
* Present and agree upon appropriate and meaningful sanctions for the youth to complete in order to be successful in the program. 
* Respect the confidentiality of the youth and other YJC members throughout the process.

Must complete the Volunteer Application, submit a current resume, and submit two professional references. Attend an in-person interview with the Volunteer Coordinator and submit a Vulnerable Sector Check.

About RVH Foundation and Keep Life Wild Cabinet: At RVH Foundation, we are fueling the future of healthcare in Simcoe Muskoka by rallying our community through philanthropy to deliver the care people need, close to home. The Keep Life Wild Cabinet plays a vital leadership role in this work, inspiring and mobilizing community support for the RVHF capital campaign through giving, volunteerism, and positive advocacy. 

As an Ambassador, you'll be the volunteer face and voice of our organization, sharing your personal journey and experiences with RVH or the RVHF with audiences at presentations and in the community (group tours, service clubs, meetings with prospects, etc.). You'll have the opportunity to attend cheque presentations, representing RVHF and expressing gratitude to our generous donors, including conducting thank-you phone calls. Additionally, you'll engage with the community by participating in the RVHF community booth at various events in the region. 

How you’ll work with the Foundation staff team: Ambassador Cabinet Members will be called upon as needed by various members of the Foundation staff team and will report to the Manager, Donor Experience.

The Essa Fire Department is holding it's annual golf tournmanet this year on Friday, July 7th, 2023, at Tangle Creek! We need numerous volunteers in different capcities throughout the day! No experience necessary! The volunteers will need to be avaibale from 10:00 a.m, to approximately dinner time (or whenever the tournament finishes up).  Duties will include help setting up, checking in participants, running games at various holes, assisting with parking, and assisting with various draws!

Bench Warmers are friendly people who allow others to engage in conversation in either parks or malls. Studies show that loneliness has the same dire consequences on physical health as smoking a pack a day! Social connection is so needed (and often lost in the shuffle of busyness and technology) and MatureMinds Friendship Bench offers an opportunity for interaction and social engagement. The implementation is simple but the results are deep and  meaningful. Volunteers will receive training in active listening, self care, mental health awareness, and ageism. After successfully completing the training, volunteers become Bench Warmers. They sit on a bench either at a park or in a mall with a sign that says "If you want to talk, I want to listen." Be part of the cure for the loneliness epidemic! Become a Bench Warmer.

As a volunteer in the Calm H.O.M.E.S program, you will play a key role in supporting participants through the concept of "body doubling." This involves providing a calm, supportive, and non-judgmental presence as participants work to declutter their homes. While you will not perform the decluttering tasks yourself, your presence helps participants stay motivated, focused, and accountable, creating a productive and comfortable environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as a "body double" during in-home support sessions, encouraging and supporting participants in their decluttering efforts.

• Adhere to recovery-oriented and trauma-informed principles when engaging with participants.

• Maintain confidentiality of participant information, including names, addresses, and home circumstances.

• Provide respectful, professional, and mental health-informed support.

• Refer to the program/participant information form to understand specific needs and goals of the program.

• Support program workshops, which may include assisting with tasks such as child-minding, administrative support, or event organization as needed.

• Adhere to all policies and procedures of Glowing Hearts Charity as outlined/provided.

TIME COMMITMENT

Training:

• 1.5-hour online program overview, role orientation, training on recovery-oriented and trauma-informed support practices on Monday, September 15th, 2025 from 6:30pm-8pm

• 2-hour online participant connection, introduction to decluttering, program details on Monday, September 29th, 2025 from 6pm-8:00pm

In-Home Participant Support Sessions:

• 1-hour biweekly sessions for 10 weeks (5 sessions for each participant or family supported).

Share your love of reading and comfort with Zoom meetings, by facilitating a small online book club for people with development disabilities.  This role promotes literacy, community interaction and building relationships.  

As a Book Club Facilitator you will manage the weekly Zoom meetings (admitting members, sharing screens, assigning cohosts etc.) as well as assign Individual readers, plan sessions and read some of the chosen text to/with the group.

This group usually focusses on one book per season and works slowly through chapters, reading together and discussing.

This group meets virtually every Tuesday from 6-7 pm, therefore the Facilitator would need to commit about 1.5 hours each Tuesday and perhaps an additional 30 - 60 minutes weekly for planning.

Garden Support:

Our garden plays a crucial role in providing fresh, organic produce for our community. We are seeking volunteers with a passion for and experience in sustainable agriculture to contribute to the success of these essential programs. This program will start back full time in the Spring but is dependent on the weather.

 
Police records check and a reference will be required.

Volunteers will play an important role in helping maintain a welcoming, clean, and enjoyable environment for guests. Responsibilities include walking throughout the bingo hall to keep the space tidy by collecting garbage and used bingo cards, greeting and assisting players as needed, and helping deliver food and beverages to tables.

At the end of the evening, volunteers will also assist with light clean-up duties such as wiping down bingo screens and ensuring the space is left organized.

This role is customer-service focused and a great way to engage with the community—no money handling or number calling is required.

Bridget’s Bunnies is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer to assist with special events throughout the year, including community events and Bridget’s Bunnies fundraising events and activities. This role involves representing Bridget’s Bunnies brands throughout the Simcoe/Muskoka region.

Hours: Volunteers will be expected to participate in events throughout Simcoe/Muskoka as their schedule allows

• Represent Bridget’s Bunnies professionally and positively at community events.

Barrie South‑Innisfil Liberal Electoral District Association (EDA)

The Barrie South‑Innisfil Liberal EDA is seeking a strategic Fundraising Chair to join our volunteer Board of Directors. This leadership role oversees fundraising strategy, donor outreach, and events to support community development and ensure the financial sustainability of the riding association.

Role Overview

The Fundraising Chair provides leadership and oversight for all fundraising activities, including events, donor outreach, and grassroots initiatives. Working collaboratively with board members and volunteers, this role develops and implements fundraising strategies that support the EDA’s long‑term financial sustainability and growth. As a board member, the Fundraising Chair also contributes to governance, strategic planning, and initiatives related to advocacy, communications, and community engagement.

• Experience or interest in fundraising, donor relations, or strategic planning

GrandPals are older adults (not necessarily Grandparents) who love children and want to make a difference for generations to come. GrandPals are trained in the stories they have to share over 5 weeks. After training, we connect GrandPals with a classroom where they meet with the same 2-4 students over a period of 8 weeks. The stories that GrandPals share about their own lives become part of the students' curriculum. Students capture the stories presented in written assignments as well as art projects.

Volunteers would be required to provide support to individuals on a helpline or chat service who have experienced sexual trauma, violence and or assault. A 30 hour training course and interview is to be completed before starting on the helpline and chat service.

The Opportunity

The Support Group Facilitator plays a critical role in the delivery of support services at community level. Once a month, they create a confidential and welcoming in-person or virtual space, where people living with Parkinson’s and/or their care partners can share their experiences and develop supportive relationships in a group setting. The time commitment for this opportunity is 3 – 5 hours per month.

As a Support Group Facilitator, you bring a keen desire to make a difference in the lives of people affected by Parkinson’s. Your empathetic approach, enthusiasm for learning, and ability to facilitate discussion about issues related to Parkinson’s are key factors in ensuring that monthly support groups are safe spaces.

One support group meeting per month (1-1.5 hours per month), plus 3-5 hours monthly for administrative and organizational tasks. Stability is essential for Support Groups so a commitment of at least one year is appreciated.

Are you a wordsmith who loves people? We are looking for older adult volunteers to help newcomers to Canada feel welcome. Help newcomers get socially connected and practice English by playing scrabble! An extensive vocabulary is not necessary (there are dictionaries for that :)) so if you are friendly and want to make a meaningful contribution by helping newcomers, this could be the club for you! Scrabble Club will last four weeks, allowing volutneers to build relationships with newcomers.

Job Summary: 

The Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe (LDAYS) is seeking dedicated volunteers to support youth with learning disabilities and ADHD in the SoAR (Some Assembly Required) Mindful Transitions Program. This strengths-based program helps Grade 7–8 students prepare for high school and Grade 11–12 students prepare for post-secondary pathways by building skills in executive functioning, organization, self-advocacy, and communication. Volunteers will facilitate planned sessions through group activities and discussion, and create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Sessions run once per week for 45–60 minutes over a four-week period and take place during school hours or in the evening at schools or community locations across York Region and Simcoe County. Volunteers must commit to the full duration of the program they support.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate the delivery of program sessions using the provided lesson plans, materials, and goals.

• Encourage skill development in areas such as organization, time management, planning, communication, and self-advocacy.

• Adapt facilitation approaches to meet diverse learning needs, while keeping the integrity of the curriculum intact.

• Complete a session report after each session and submit a final evaluation summary at the end of the program as required.

• Communicate observations or concerns to the Program Coordinator as required.

• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries in alignment with LDAYS policies.

• Develop and maintain an understanding of learning disabilities, ADHD, and transition supports.

Requirements:

• Education: Enrolled in or completed post-secondary studies in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Child and Youth Studies, Social Services, or a related field.

• High school diploma may be accepted based on experience 

• Experience: Experience working with youth or individuals with disabilities is preferred; experience supporting program delivery or group activities is an asset.

• Certifications: Access to transportation and recent Vulnerable Sector Screening Check is required. CPR and First Aid is an asset but not required.

• Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills. Must be patient, punctual, and reliable.

• Availability: Must be able to commit to the full four-week program cycle and be available during school hours or evenings depending on session scheduling.

• Help Set up the area according to event, ie. Tables and chairs, or just chairs.
• Decorate room according to the event Ask staff what can be done.
• Knock on each resident’s door and invite them to the program.
• Help bring residents to area
• Help if needed for resident drinks and or snacks
• Support resident(s) to designated area. Take attendance and give to program staff.
• Help clean up area and place tables and chairs back to how was before

Come help rehabilitate the aquatic ecosystem with Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority!

Upstream of Little Lake, a section of Willow Creek is experiencing erosion on the stream banks. With your help we will be stabilizing the stream bank, grading the banks and replanting a riparian forest. 

At this volunteer event we will be stepping into chest waders and wading into waist-deep water to anchor old Christmas trees into the edge of the streambank. This not only reduces erosion and stabilizes the streambanks, it creates habitat for fish and plants. In the weeks following the volunteer event, staff will continue the rehabilitation process by grading the steep banks to enhance floodplain capacity and improve habitat. Thank you to Napoleon for collaborating with us to improve the health and water quality in Willow Creek!

We empower young girls and women to be everything they want to be, and as a volunteer, you will help make that happen! Our volunteers support girls as they build confidence, develop new skills, and become leaders in their communities. 
As part of a unit’s leadership team, you’ll facilitate fun and engaging program activities, like scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, outdoor exploration, games, and more. You can choose to work with girls in one of five branches: Sparks (age 5-6), Embers (age 7-8), Guides (age 9-11), Pathfinders (age 12-14), or Rangers (age 15-17).  
Volunteers will receive access to a digital program platform stocked with age-appropriate activities and meeting tools, as well as training on delivering activities in ways that will empower and encourage girls. 
Units meet on a regular basis, from weekly to monthly, depending on the age of the girls. Volunteers commit to 3 hours per week for unit meetings plus additional hours, when required, for trips and events.  

What You’ll Do as A Group Leader: 
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for girls! 
- Plan regular unit meetings in person, outdoors, and online, during which you’ll facilitate girl-driven programming that is fun and engaging. 
- Organize in-person or virtual opportunities beyond unit meetings, including community service activities and camps.  
- Support shared leadership and decision-making with girls and other volunteers.  
- Promote Girl Guides to girls and women locally.  
- Provide ongoing communication to girls and parents/guardians about unit activities.  
- Assist with unit administration tasks, such as maintaining girls’ program records and health forms, managing safety protocols, and ordering badges.  
- Assist with maintaining unit finances as required by your province.  
- Support the semi-annual sales of Girl Guide Cookies.
