Description and Subjects
DescriptionMatthews House Hospice is a community based charitable organization, serving the New Tecumseth and South Simcoe area. We provide non-medical, psycho-social and emotional support to individuals facing a life-threatening illness and their families and caregivers, and also the bereaved. Matthews House Hospice is an active member of the local health care team working cooperatively to support all members in our community.  
 
Programs at Matthews House cover 4 areas of support:  
Wellness, Day Hospice, Visiting Hospice and Education and Outreach: 
 
Wellness includes: Yoga, Reiki, Tai Chi, reflexology, Meditation Circle, Men’s Group, Garden Group, Art Therapy and Playing with Colors, Holistic Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Foot Care Clinic and Art Group. 
 
Day Hospice includes: Circle of Friends Caregiver Group and Youth Bereavement. 
 
Visiting Hospice includes: in-home visiting for palliative care clients, caregivers and/or the bereaved, case management, assistance with advance directives and child bereavement support. 
 
Education and Outreach includes: the use of our library for resource, presentations to groups and training in Advance Directives, advocacy, Grief and Bereavement and how to support at End of Life. 
 
Hugs-Support for bereaved Children via group support.

VOLUNTEER_DESC* support to families of individuals who are coping with a life threatening illness at home, tending to patients in the home (e.g. visiting, emotional support, transportation). Mandatory training sessions provided for caregiver work. A one year volunteer commitment is asked of those undertaking this course. Volunteer opportunities also available for office reception, fundraising work and support to day and evening programs.
